How to Prepare Your Space for a Concrete Floor Coating

Steps to Prepare

A successful concrete coating installation begins with the right preparation. As a home or commercial property owner, taking a few simple steps before our team arrives helps ensure your Premier Concrete Solutions project goes smoothly and results in the flawless finish you’re expecting. Below is a quick guide to help you get your space ready for installation day.

1. Clear Out the Area

Before installation, you’ll need to completely clear the floor surface that will receive the coating. This includes vehicles, storage items, tools, furniture, appliances, shelving that sits directly on the floor, and any other belongings occupying the space. Because your property’s safety is a top priority, our technicians will never move personal items or attempt to work around them. Clearing the area gives us the open workspace we need for grinding, repairing, coating, and cleanup—ultimately helping you achieve the strongest bond and the most attractive results.

2. Clear Away Surface Debris

While our team performs a thorough, professional surface preparation—including grinding, repairing cracks, and vacuuming concrete dust—we recommend giving the area a quick once-over before we arrive. Removing loose dirt, leaves, pet hair, sawdust, and similar debris can help streamline the installation process. If you choose to rinse the space, such as a garage or outdoor area, with a hose or pressure sprayer, be sure the floor is completely dry before our technicians get there. Excess moisture can delay the start of the project, so allowing ample drying time is key.

3. Remove or Protect Valuable Wall Items

During the surface preparation stage, the grinding equipment can generate dust, even though we use vacuums to minimize it. To keep your belongings safe, remove or cover anything hanging on walls near the work area—such as artwork, framed photos, sports equipment, tools, or decorative items. You may also want to temporarily remove items sitting on wall-mounted shelves or protect them with plastic sheeting. A few minutes of precaution helps ensure everything stays clean and protected throughout the process.
